Scholarship

The Janiva Willis Scholarship Fund gives $500 to two deserving softball players to assist with post-secondary education. Set up in honour of the late Janiva Willis (, The late Janiva Willis (2016) was an extremely talented softball player from Irishtown, New Brunswick who went on to have a distinguished NCAA softball career at Winthrop University and played for Team Canada for seven years. Janiva was committed to giving back and setting up programs for disadvantaged youth through her non-profit foundation. The Janiva Willis Scholarship recognizes two deserving softball players who demonstrate leadership skills, and a commitment to giving back to the sport through volunteer involvement, reflecting Janiva Willis’s passion for youth development and community service. All applications are reviewed and selected by the family of Janiva.

The award is administered by Softball New Brunswick. It is expected that the award winners will have exhibited leadership traits and skill in softball while giving back to the sport.  

To qualify for this award the applicants must be/have:

• A resident of New Brunswick
• A registered member with Softball New Brunswick, for the current year plus the two years prior to the year, and in good standing.
• Is in Grade 12 with plans to attend a Post Secondary Institution full-time in the fall of the year of application.
• Able to demonstrate academic performance and success.
• Able to demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship and dedication to softball.
• Able to demonstrate their community involvement - volunteer or employment related.
• At least one (1) letter of reference
• A copy of high school transpript
• Confirmation of acceptance to post-secondary school.
